    Fun with Factoring
    Do you struggle with factoring of polynomials? Are you confused and don’t know what to do? Attend this interactive seminar and you will learn new, non-traditional methods that will make factoring fun and easy. The participants in this workshop will be engaged in hands-on activities that will help them to visualize the process of factoring and get a better understanding of the concept. - Vishnyakova

    *Graphing Calculator (Basic Skills)
    This seminar will be most useful to students with little or no background in the use of a graphing calculator. It will cover basic arithmetic features of the TI–83 and 84 family of calculators: entering exponents, absolute value, fractions, and rational expressions, evaluating expressions, verifying answers, and graphing equations. Please have one of these calculators for use during this live interactive webcast. You will need to email mmassey@ccccd.edu no later than noon the day of the webcast for participation instructions.A computer with a high-speed internet connection is required for this webcast. Participants with Microsoft VISTA operating systems will be able to see but may not be able to hear the webcast. - Massey

    Graphing Calculator (Workshop)
    This seminar will cover the basic features and graphing capabilities of the TI –83, TI-83 Plus and TI-84 calculators. Please bring only one of these calculators to this session. This seminar will be most useful to Developmental Mathematics and College Algebra students. - Eiting

    Order of Operations: PEMDAS or not PEMDAS?
    Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally… Should we always follow this advice or is there a misconception about the order of operations in this phrase? The participants in this interactive workshop will discover the answer while solving different problems using the rules of order of operations. As a part of the seminar, you will also have a chance to create your own problems using Algebra tiles. - Vishnyakova

    Parts of Speech I (for ESL Students)
    A sentence is a group of words in special order that expresses a complete thought. Learn how to construct simple, correct sentences utilizing parts of speech. - Erickson

    Practice placement/embedding of simple references to time and place in your writing. - Erickson

    Solve Equations Using a Graphing Calculator
    This seminar is recommended for Developmental Mathematics and High School Algebra students. Basic concepts such as expression, equation, solution, identity, linear equation, absolute value, absolute value equation and radical equation are reviewed. Student will solve linear equations, absolute value equations and radical equations using a graphing calculator. Bring your TI-83 or TI-84 calculator, a red pen, pencil and paper. - Mergerson

    Tackle That Chapter and Win!
    How much do you recall from that chapter you read last night? What were the main ideas? Which topics will likely appear on an exam? How can you tackle a chapter and master it? Bring a textbook, paper, and three pens (black, blue & red) and find out. Note: The video of this seminar, together with handouts, is also on reserve in the LRC at SCC, CPC, and PRC. – Austin

    That Pesky Punctuation! (for ESL Students)
    Proper use of punctuation is essential for written English communication. Improper use can cause confusion and frustration of both the writer and the reader. In this seminar, basic rules of punctuation will be examined and practiced. Students will find that punctuation is not a “random” act, but an integral part of written English. - Megarity

    The Key to Solving Word Problems
    Attend this session to learn how to solve word problems. Learn the language, the process and the solution. Practice problems will be discussed. - Ansari

    THEA Math Prep
    Videos teaching how to do the THEA Math Practice Test problems and eight extra problems are on reserve in the LRC on three campuses (SCC, CPC, & PRC). The title is “Math THEA Prep – Study Skills Seminar.” The tape is about 4 hours long and may be checked out in the LRC. Before viewing, please print out and bring the entire THEA Math Practice Test from www.ccccd.edu. (Click on Current Students, click on Testing, click on TASP on-line Practice Test). Recommendation: Work on 8 or 10 problems, then watch those problems being taught on the video. Don’t try to watch the whole video at one time. If you have questions after you have viewed the video, go to the math Lab in J227 (SCC) for help.

    Theories of Forgetting
    Students will learn five reasons why they forget things, plus strategies for placing important information into their long-term memories. This seminar will enable participants succeed in class, on tests, and in everyday life! Learning styles and working memory will be addressed, as well as valuable memory techniques. – Gibbons
