ADMISSIONS AND RECORDS OFFICE

Beginning Fall 2006: Residency - General Information

The following information is subject to change at any time due to State or immigration laws/regulations:

To be considered Texas residents, students must clearly establish and maintain residence in Texas for the 12 months preceding their enrollment. Documentation of Texas residency will be required.

Generally, the following documents may be used in meeting residency requirements:

--Texas public high school transcript (if enrolled within the last 12 months) showing three years of attendance and graduation date.

--Letter of employment on company letterhead (verifying one year of employment). Letter must be currently dated and include your name, address, social security number and date of birth and be signed by an authorized agent of the company.

--Proof of paying in-state tuition at a Texas public institution of higher education during the previous fall or spring semester.

See the Admissions Office for additional information and possible documentation.

The responsibility for paying the correct residency classification is that of the student.

Changes of address or name must be reported promptly to the Admissions and Records Office. If you are moving to Collin County, documentation of residency is required. Address changes can be completed online under Student Records at Webline. If you prefer, a Master Record Change form can be completed and delivered to the Admissions and Records Office at any campus. (See directory).

Collin reserves the right to collect additional tuition and fees if it is determined that the student registered under an incorrect residency status or if tuition and fees are increased by the Collin Board of Trustees.

 Residency Changes:

The Admissions and Records Office will make residency code changes when sufficient documentation is submitted.

Waivers

Ad Valorem

Students who have not lived in Texas for the 12 months preceding registration, but who own property in Collin County may be eligible for an ad valorem waiver.  A copy of the deed or most recent property tax statement is required for verification. Once the student has lived in Texas for 12 months, proof of maintaining the residency will be required.

Property owners on most types of temporary visas are not eligible for the ad valorem waiver.  Students must generally be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for an ad valorem waiver.

Senior Citizens

Students age 55-64 (by the first day of the semester) who are Texas residents are eligible for lower tuition rates. Proof of date of birth is required. They will pay 50% of their residency classification tuition plus all applicable fees.

Students age 65 and Older (by the first day of the semester) - Tuition for up to six credit hours per semester is free on a space-available basis; other fees will be charged per current catalog (tuition/fees).

Contact the Admissions and Records Office for details. Each term, prior to payment of tuition and fees, notify the Cashier's Office of senior status.
