Maymester and Summer 2006:
Residency - General Information
The following information is subject to change at any time due to state or immigration laws/regulations:
To be considered a Texas resident, students must clearly establish residence in Texas for the 12 months preceding their enrollment. Documentation of Texas residency is required.
The responsibility for registering under the proper residency classification is that of the student. Changes of address or name must be reported promptly to the Admissions and Records Office. This enables students to receive registration and other information from various college departments and programs. See Master Record Change form (pdf version)
A student who is a dependent of a Texas resident must submit the Oath and Residency Information form confirming dependency for the preceding and current tax years. Contact the Admissions and Records Office for more details regarding minors/dependents of Texas residents and residency based upon legal guardian.
Collin reserves the right to collect additional tuition and fees if it is determined that the student registered under an incorrect residency status or if tuition and fees are increased by the Collin Board of Trustees.
Documents to Support Residency
Documentation of Texas residency may be required if the information given on the Application for Admission is not adequate to prove residency. If so, the following documents (copy required) may be used in meeting residency requirements:
Proof of Texas residency must show student's name, a Texas address and must be dated from:

Students who have not lived in Texas for the 12 months preceding registration, but who own property in Collin County may be eligible for an ad valorem waiver. A copy of the deed or most recent property tax statement is required for verification. If this waiver is based on the student's parents' property ownership, a copy of the Federal Income Tax forms for the current and preceding year showing the student as a dependent is also required. Once Texas residency has been established (12 months), ad valorem waivers will no longer be necessary.
Property owners on most types of temporary visas are not eligible for the ad valorem waiver. Students must generally be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for an ad valorem waiver.
Students age 55 and over (as of first class day) who are Texas residents are eligible for lower tuition rates. Proof of date of birth is required. They will pay 50% of their residency classification tuition plus all applicable fees. This includes students 65 years of age or older after the first six credit hours. Contact the Admissions and Records Office for details. Each term, prior to payment of tuition and fees, notify the Cashier's Office of senior status.
