Texas Success Initiative
(TSI) Exemptions (as of 9/2003)

- Student is exempt on the basis of approved TAAS scores. Official
high school transcript with scores required for exemption.
- Student is exempt on the basis of approved ACT test scores.
Official high school transcript with scores required for exemption.
- Student is exempt on the basis of approved SAT scores. Official high
school transcript with scores required for exemption.
- TSI exemption given by another Texas public institution. Official
transcript must be on file.
- Student has associate degree or higher from a
regionally accredited institution. Official transcript must be on
file.
- Transfer student from private or out-of-state
institutions with a B or higher in TSI subject areas (reading, writing, and
math).
Temporary Waivers
1. Certificate program. (Degree plan must be on file).
2. Non degree-seeking:
- Fall transient student (temporary basis). Transcript/grade report
documentation required.
- Spring transient student (temporary). Transcript/grade report and
signed waiver form required.
- Summer transient student (temporary). Transcript/grade report and
signed waiver form required
- High school student with a failing TSI score (concurrently enrolled).
- Active military duty (United States Armed
Forces, stationed in Texas)

- ACT: Composite 23, English 19, Math 19
- SAT: Composite 1070, Verbal 500,
Math 500
Note: SAT and ACT test scores are valid for
five (5)
years. TAAS scores are valid for three (3) years.
