SURFACE WATER AND SOIL ANALYSIS

Water samples from creeks and soil samples were collected in the Plano-McKinney area and basic analysis for contamination was performed in our geology lab. The lab has acquired new analysis kits that allow a great variety of chemical analysis to continue this project.

Results

Water

_ The Nitrate content is below the critical 10 ppm level

            (EPA) everywhere

_ The dissolved oxygen content is healthy for

            ecosystems everywhere

_ Hardness is high or very high due probably to the

presence of Austin Chalk limestone in the creek beds

_ pH is alkaline (or neutral) due to high Ca++

            concentration

_ Sulfide and Phosphate content is zero

_ Precipitation’s impact:

Nitrogen and hardness lowers after precipitation

            Dissolved oxygen and pH varies

Soils

_ pH is too alkaline for most crops

_ Nitrogen and Phosphorous are too low

_ Potassium is very high (above required levels)

_ Humus is too low in most samples

_ Few samples in Bob Woodruff Park had high

humus as well as high Nitrogen and Phosphorous content with less alkaline pH.
