Dr. Ron Day has more than 30 years of experience in information technology. His expertise ranges from multimedia, web development, artificial intelligence and more.
These days – in addition to his day job at iTKO Inc. in Dallas – he gets satisfaction from the Continuing Education students at Collin College, where he teaches Java and a host of other computer courses. It’s in the classroom where Dr. Day finds inspiration from inspiring others.
“Watching the light bulbs going on in the students’ heads when they get ‘it’ (is inspiring),” Dr. Day said. “Also, there’s the challenge of explaining difficult topics in a way that they can be understood by newcomers to a technology.”
Dr. Day is no stranger to the classroom. He taught mathematics, computer science, physics and geophysics full time at the University of California – Santa Barbara and at the University of Newcastle in England.
Dr. Day is a self-admitted life-long learner, which suits the ethos of Continuing Education perfectly. He considers Continuing Education “priceless.”
“Technology never stagnates nor should we. As technology changes and expands, our minds must take in the new, assimilate it and merge it with or replace the old,” Dr. Day said. “Careers have changed. I worked for one company for 21 years. I grew with that company and as technology changed I was afforded the opportunity to change with it. I built up a wealth of experience about general topics and specific topics. General topics survive the test of time, but specific topics are often short-lived, and are replaced by newer, better technologies.
“Today, unfortunately, careers are much shorter, and people must be willing to retrain themselves to keep pace with a dynamic workplace.”
