Practice Administrators oversee the
daily operations in a variety of healthcare settings
such as physician offices, outpatient clinics and
surgery centers. Duties generally include managing
and directing the work of both clinical and
non-clinical staff, tracking financial performance
and expenses, supervision of coding, billing and
collections operations, human resources management,
marketing and contract negotiations as well as many
other tasks.
Collin College has established a
post-baccalaureate certificate series to prepare students with the
skills needed to take the Certified Medical Manager
(CMM) examination, a nationally recognized symbol of
excellence in healthcare medical practice
management. This curriculum has been approved by the
Professional Association of Healthcare Office
Management (PAHCOM).
Prerequisites: At least
twelve (12) formal college credit hours pertinent to
business management
After completing the
prescribed certificate coursework, a student will be
eligible to sit for the CMM certification exam. The
level of certification obtained after passing the
exam depends on the amount of previous healthcare
experience a student has.
Certified Medical Manager
(CMM) - Applicants must have three years minimum
of healthcare experience to qualify for full CMM
designation
Certified Medical
Manager-Apprentice (CMM-A) - Applicants with
less than three years of healthcare experience
