Supply List for Still Life Painting

Basic Supply List

Bring 3 subjects to paint: two should be the same fruit or vegetable (i.e.: two lemons, one pepper). Attached leaves, stems, and branches add botanical realism so seek those out when selecting.

  • 1 pencil - HB or medium lead pencil

  • 1 kneaded eraser

  • Paper - 9" x 12" approx. watercolor hot or cold press pad or sheets

  • Tracing paper - 9" x 12" approx.

We will work small enough to complete a painting at each session

  • 1 small brush - (#0-#4)

  • 1 medium brush (#6-#10) watercolor round and any other brushes you already have

  • Fabric scrap to clean brushes

  • Paints - you will not need paint the first session

You will learn about paint via demo and hands on. Some watercolor sets will be available in class the first session to purchase.

  • 2 containers for water (cool whip type bowls ok)

  • Palette - with wells

  • Board - foam board, masonite, cardboard back from another pad, at least 1" bigger all around than your watercolor paper

Optional:

  • A wire floral frog to position you fruit firmly on

  • A soft white or neutral colored scarf pillow case, or fabric drape

  • A box laid on its side to stage your still life vignette inside of

  • A box cutter or craft knife

  • A flashlight or positional 'snake light' to add dramatic lighting

  • An old bath towel to prop the flashlight on

Three items will fit in a 9 x 12 box or any medium sized box

Supplies can be purchased from Asel Art, Hobby Lobby or any office supply store.
