Mission
The Consumer Health
Information Center (CHIC) at Central Park Campus Library, Collin
College reflects the library’s mission statement, “to
support teaching and learning by providing the excellent staff, resources,
instruction and information services needed by our community of users.”
The CHIC offers a wide variety of health-related materials, resources,
and services to the community and provides support to the Allied Health
Science programs of the college. The CHIC’s staff educates patrons
in the use of consumer health information and provides high quality, knowledge-based
information resources.
Goals
The Consumer Health
Information Center at Central Park Campus Library, Collin College
strives to improve the health literacy of the community by:
- Promoting a better
understanding of medical conditions, treatments and procedures
- Promoting the ability
to make informed choices about medical care through the use of information
and resources.
- Building awareness
of health information resources available in the community
- Partnering with
other community agencies and institutions to achieve shared goals
Services
The Consumer Health
Information Center at Central Park Campus Library, Collin College
in the pursuit of its goals will offer the following services:
- A collection of
books, videos, audio recordings and other materials dealing with medical
and health-related topics
- Reference assistance
by professional librarians
- Databases with
full-text medical journals, newsletters, and information sheets
- Access to reliable,
evaluated health-related web sites
