What is Modern Dance?

At Collin College, Modern Dance is taught as "a process of developing the total performer in modern dance. The term total dancer refers to a thinking, feeling, sensing and doing individual. Growth in dance requires the integrated development of technique, perception, artistic expression and aesthetic involvement. Technique refers to the development of strength, flexibility, mobility, alignment, anatomical and kinesiological awareness. Perception refers to the sensory and mental processes involved in learning movement. Artistic expression concerns the abilities to interpret and convey the dynamic qualities of dance. Aesthetic involvement involves total mind/body/spirit commitment to the presentation of the dance." - Tiffanee Arnold, chair
