REQUIREMENTS:

The following are requirements to enter the Emergency Medical Technician training program.

  • high school diploma or GED
  • 18 years or older
  • completion of program application
  • complete CCCCD reading & mathematics assessment tests
  • certified as American Heart Association CPR for health care provider, or Red Cross CPR for the professional rescuer
  • personal interview
  • immunizations *
  • drug screening
  • criminal history check

Health Insurance - All Emergency Medical Services students are required to show proof of health insurance prior to starting clinical rotations each semester. Students in need of health insurance may contact their choice of insurance providers, or any of the providers on the enclosed list. (click here for list)

Six (6) credit hours of coursework are required for becoming an EMT.

EMSP 1501 Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
Includes all the skill necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services.  5 credit hours.

EMSP 1160 Clinical - Emergency Medical Technology/Technician - Basic
A health-related, work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional. 1 credit hour.
