Fire Investigator

This 128 hour course includes introduction to the investigation of fires and explosions of known and unknown origin, including investigative techniques, collection and preservation of evidence, case preparation and presentation, point-of-origin, and arson law.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will take the Texas Commission on Fire Protection state certification exam for Fire Investigator. During the course, students will attend classes at the McKinney Campus

Fire Inspector I & II

The Fire Inspector I and II courses will prepare students to perform fire inspections with the purpose of limiting the risk of life and property loss by recognizing fire and safety hazards early. The students will be able to perform detailed fire inspections and recommend corrective actions. Upon successful completion of this course, students will take the state certification exam for Basic Fire Inspector.

Plan Examiner I

The Plan Examiner I course will prepare students to examine building and construction plans with the purpose of limiting the risk of life and property loss by ensuring that future construction complies with all applicable fire codes.  This course is taught as part of the Fire Inspector I and II course and is open to those previously certified as a Fire Inspector.  The students will be able to read detailed construction plans and recommend corrective changes, if needed.  Upon successful completion of this course, students will take the state certification exam for Plan Examiner I.

Driver Operator

This 80 hour course focuses on the skills necessary for effective fire apparatus operation. Course topics include pump theory, fire service hydraulics, apparatus inspections, driving practices, and pump operations.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will take the Texas Commission on Fire Protection state certification exam for Driver/Operator. During the course, students will attend classes at the Fire Rescue Training Complex on the CCCC campus in McKinney.  Students must currently hold TCFP Basic Firefighter certification, valid driver's license, and provide complete bunker gear.

Fire Officer

The Fire Officer Certification is designed for fire protection personnel functioning as supervisors in a municipal fire department.  This collection of Fire Science courses meets NFPA Standard 1021, Fire Officer I and II.  Students completing the series of prescribed courses will earn 21 semester credit hours of college credit applicable towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Fire Science.  The course series concludes with FIRT 2351 Company Fire Officer.  In this capstone course, students will participate in live fire training scenarios commanding firefighters through a variety of challenging exercises.  Upon successful completion of this course, students will eligible to take the Texas Commission on Fire Protection state certification exam for Fire Officer.
