Live
Fire Training Complex
The live-fire
training facility is located on the Central Park Campus in McKinney, Texas. The 12,000
square foot, 5 story burn complex features a unique design concept unlike any other
training center. The exterior represents several occupancies including single family
dwelling, 2-story hotel/motel, retail store, 3-story apartment, industrial loading dock,
warehouse space, and high-rise office/hotel. The adjustable wall panels provide unlimited
floor plan configurations, challenging even the most veteran firefighters. Scenarios can
be changed in a matter of minutes, avoiding repetitive and boring training evolutions.
The building features natural gas fireplaces with flashover ability as well as ordinary
combustible fireplaces for realistic thermal layering. Safety controls allow instructors
to immediately stop a training exercise and ventilate the structure. Unlike most live fire
facilities, firefighters will have the opportunity to pull ceilings throughout the
structure. Firefighters practice ventilation exercises including full length trench cuts
on top of the roof ventilation mock-up. Rafter guides allow for easy replacement of
roofing materials. Debris from the roof ventilation mock-up and ceiling pulls is pushed to
a trash chute for easy clean-up.
The five-story elevator shaft doubles as vertical confined space or can be sectioned at
each level to simulate elevator entrapment. A man-hole at the top of the shaft allows
rescue personnel to train in a 55' deep shaft.
