Writing an Effective Application or Scholarship Essay

Writing an effective essay could be the difference in getting into the college of your choice. This workshop will cover helpful strategies and tips of writing an effective application or scholarship essay.
Princeton Review: Testing Strategies

Find out all you need to know about the SAT and ACT in this informational session. A Princeton Review instructor will lead you through a few techniques to help you on these high stakes admissions tests. Where will your scores take you?

Exploring Majors: How to Choose

What do you plan to major in? Do you know what your choices are? When it comes to selecting a major, many students are uncertain about how to make the right decision. This workshop will provide you with a plan on how to match majors with your interests and career plans, and how to find the best colleges for those majors.
Destination College: The Parent Workshop
6:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010
This popular workshop will provide parents with the essentials of planning and preparing for their students’ college experience. The fast-paced sessions, presented by a variety of speakers, will cover topics such as timelines, choosing colleges, applying to college, and paying for college. Join us for an entertaining and informative evening. Dinner will be provided. Attendees will receive a copy of the 2010 Parent Resource Guide.
Princeton Review: SAT/ACT Mini-Assessment
10 a.m. – noon, Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010
Preston Ridge Campus (PRC) Event Center,
9700 Wade Blvd., Frisco
Take the Princeton Review Assessment which is a combination of questions representing the SAT and ACT. By using this tool, students can determine which test is better suited for them. Princeton Review representatives will explain the differences between the tests.
Collin College Pre-admission Partnerships: Transferring to Universities
6:00-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010
Representatives from each of Collin's pre-admission partner colleges/universities will provide information about their program's benefits, the application process, financial aid, scholarships, and ways to prepare for college. The partners will meet parents and students during individual breakout sessions and host browsing/information tables. Collin will also host advising and admission browsing/information tables.
From High School to College: A Time of Transition for Students and Parents

The transition from high school to college represents a new road in your child's life. For many students, this significant milestone symbolizes the beginning of independence as they separate from their parents and begin their journey into adulthood. As is true with any change, this passage will require adjustment on the part of the college bound student as well as their parents. Join Collin College's Counseling staff as they take you along this path and show you some tools to use in navigating the terrain.
How to Apply for Financial Aid

How do I apply? Am I eligible? Get help in sorting out the facts from the myths. This workshop will introduce you to financial aid concepts such as the different types of aid, eligibility, the application process, and more.
Getting Started at Collin College: For New Collin Students

Are you planning on attending Collin College in the summer or fall 2010? If so, this workshop walks you through each step of the process to get started, from admissions to testing to advising. Representatives from various student services departments will be available to answer your individual questions.

Scores Back Session: Part II of II of National Testing Day

Come pick up your results and learn about the test you took. We’ll also show you some of our proven test-taking strategies. Parents and Students welcome. Students do not have to attend Part I to attend Part II.
