Who should be a Tech Prep Student?

A Tech Prep student can be any student who is interested in pursuing preparation for a high-tech, high-skill, and high-wage career. The Tech Prep student can be a hands-on learner, or a student entering the non-baccalaureate labor market, or the average student looking for a challenging program. How do Tech Prep and college prep differ?

College prep traditionally prepares students for the four-year route in pursuit of a traditional professional career. Tech Prep provides multiple exit points for the student. Some pursue certificate programs after graduation, others continue on toward an associate degree, while still others continue in pursuit of a bachelor's degree. The student can also earn tuition-free college credit while still in high school. Tech Prep is college prep with an EDGE! The student has job-ready skills, college credits, and is prepared to continue their education.

How do I earn Tech Prep credits?

Students will receive tuition-free college credit for their courses with the following provisions:
If...

you've completed your College Tech Prep classes in high school with a grade of "B" or better, and successfully passed a Tech Prep end-of-course exam with a grade of 80* or better. (Exams apply only to select program areas)  *Child Development courses require end-of-course exam grades of 85 or better

Then...

1. Enroll at Collin College and declare an Associate Degree major within 24 months of graduating high school. This major may include your Tech Prep classes in the degree plan.
2. Take two non-developmental 3-credit courses in order to earn 6 credits  *Students who were concurrently enrolled at Collin need to complete only three additional credits after high school graduation as a condition of eligibility.
3. Complete a Petition for Tech Prep Credit
