Joan Canby

Joan Canby holds a MA in Comparative Literature and Italian from San Francisco State University . She did her undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin in Madison , she also holds a Certificate in English as a Second Language from the University of California at Santa Barbara . She is an ESOL Instructor at Richland Community College and Excelsior Language School in Dallas . She is a former Project Manager for Learning Products for Ericsson and Nortel Networks and is a certified PMP (Professional Project Manager).  She worked in the training field for twenty years in corporate America prior to starting her second career in higher education. She has studied at the Universita per Stranieri in Rome , the Universetet Folkstudiet in Stockholm, Sweden and the Alliance Francaise in Paris.  Her poetry, essay, travel articles, and technical papers have been published in regional and national publications.  She won second prize for a biography from the National Society of Arts and Letters.

Her major emphasis in her Humanities class are the connections between cultures and the interrelationships in the literary arts from the Egyptians to the modern period.
