Philip NoguereProfessor Philip E. Noguere considers he has been preparing to teach Humanities 1301 most of his life. “The best way to get a grip on Humanities 1301 is to think of it as a course in civilization, something that never stays in one place but hops around the world,” Noguere says. While earning a B.A. and M.A. in English from Columbia University, he also took courses in art history on the graduate level, as well as archaeology and anthropology in college. He has made five field trips to Mexico, |

Guatemala, Honduras and
Belize to study the ruins of the Mayan civilization. His lectures at CCCC
are made more visual by the many photographs he includes from his international
travels to Europe and Central America. “My hope is that this course
will help all my students be more creative and get more out of life,”
he concludes. He is taking his own advice—learning to paint and
sculpt. He just poured his first bronze at SMU. He has been teaching Humanities
1301 at Collin County Community College since the Fall of 2002. |
