As you may have read or heard in the news, there have been an increasing number of H1N1 (swine) flu cases identified in Texas. Although we have no confirmed cases of H1NI flu at Collin College, we are posting this notice to help prepare our college community in the event that the flu spreads. Please take appropriate precautions to keep yourself healthy!

Prevention

Public health officials want people to protect themselves against this flu.  Here are some ways to protect yourself and your family:

• If you are sick, stay home and if your children are sick, keep them at home. Do not send them to school.

• Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.

• Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow.

• Stay at least three feet away from people who are sick.  

• People who are sick should stay home from work or school and avoid other people until they are better.

Collin College has implemented  measures to protect students and employees. For example, the college has hired double crews for campus cleaning. We have also purchased hand sanitizers for all the restrooms, even though washing your hands for approximately 20 seconds is purported to be as effective. Should cases of H1N1/swine flu be confirmed on campus, the college will take appropriate steps as outlined in the college's Pandemic Influenza Plan.

Dial 2-1-1 for Flu Advice

Texans can now dial 2-1-1 to receive over-the-phone medical guidance about what they should do if they or a family member have flu symptoms. The state's 2-1-1 health information help line is now staffed with medical professionals who can provide information about managing flu symptoms and advice on when to seek medical care from a physician or emergency room.
