Thank you
for your interest in the nursing program. The nursing at
Collin County Community College District is approved by the Texas
BNE and has national accreditation through NLNAC.
Because of
legislative mandates, all nursing programs must follow the
guidelines established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board for Instructional Programs in Workforce Education. These
guidelines include a common course numbering system found in the
Workforce Education Course Manual as well as approved courses that
can be used in establishing degree programs for nursing. The
two-year degree plan for nursing was proposed by the faculty and
administration of Collin County Community College and approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The clinical course is a separate course but must be taken concurrently
with a didactic or lecture class. The clinical and the didactic
course both must be passed in order to progress to the next semester.
The program requires 71 credit hours in order to earn the A.A.S.
degree. The nursing program was recognized in 2004 by the
THECB as an exemplary program in the state of Texas.
Admission to
the Associate Degree Nursing Program is selective and considered
twice per year for admission. Nursing courses are
offered only at the Central Park Campus (CPC) in McKinney. Applications
are due by January 31 for consideration in the
Fall entry class or July 31 for Spring entry. All
applications received after January 31 or July 31 will
not be considered for admission. Applicants will be notified by mail
regarding acceptance within 4 to 6 weeks after the application deadline.
The size of the class will be limited to the available clinical
resources for learning and the availability of qualified nursing
faculty.
Candidates
for admission are required to:
- Complete
an application form and send official transcripts from
each college
or university attended to the Admissions Office
and to the Director
of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. (This includes a CCCCD
transcript.)
- Submit CCCCD
application to the Admissions Office if not currently enrolled
in any course at CCCCD. Information on necessary requirements
for college admission or advising on previously completed college
work can be assessed by Student Services. Any pre-requisite courses
from other colleges and/or universities must be evaluated for
equivalency by Student Services.
- Complete
the PSB - Nursing School Aptitude Examination prior to
application deadline on one of the scheduled dates. This test is given only a limited
number of times in a designated classroom at the Central Park
Campus. Students (applicant ready) seeking
admission for next academic year must complete this test on one
of the assigned dates. “Applicant Ready” means that
the student will have met the admission requirements for consideration. Students have one opportunity to take the exam
in a 12 month time frame.
A fee of $15.00 must be paid in the Bursar's Office (Central
Park Campus) after you check with the Nursing Department
(B336) of date availability. Registration will close the Friday
before each exam or when full. Because seating is limited, you are advised
to register early.
Criteria
for Admission
- An overall
GPA of 2.5 is required from all college courses completed and
applicable to the nursing degree plan. Transcripts reflecting
all courses completed must be submitted.
- Completion
of the PSB - Nursing School Aptitude Examination with a satisfactory
result.
- Completed
application with transcripts from all colleges attended.
- Completion
of the four pre-entrance courses with a grade of "C"
or above. These courses include: MATH 1342; BIOL 2401, BIOL 2402,
and BIOL 2421. NOTE: A grade of C in each of these courses, however,
equates to a 2.0 pre-entrance GPA which will not be considered
as meeting admission requirements. The cumulative GPA on these
courses must be 2.5 or above. Applications will be considered
if at least three of the four pre-entrance courses are completed
and the fourth one is in progress. Admission is competitive!!!
Application
must be made by January 31 for Fall entry or July 31 for Spring
entry consideration. Applicants are notified by mail within 4-6
weeks after January 31 or July 31
as to whether they have been selected into the program or not. The
selection committee reserves the right to make final selection of
all candidates.
Biology
(Microbiology and Anatomy and Physiology I & II) and Math courses
are accepted only if taken within five years prior to Fall entry
into the nursing program. Students concurrently enrolled in BIOL
2402 and BIOL 2421 in a given semester must withdraw from both courses
if BIOL 2402 is dropped. Seek advising from your biology professor
for further information. BIOL 1406 is not required if Anatomy and
Physiology I & II are already completed. Pre-entrance courses
taken at other institutions must be evaluated for equivalent transfer
credit prior to applying for the program; students should visit
the Degree Plan Coordinator in Student Services to evaluate transfer
courses.
