Preparation for Medication Exam

 

You are required to pass a medication administration test with a score of 80% or better in order to progress in the Distance Learning Re-Entry Nursing Course. You will be given two attempts to pass the test. If you do not successfully pass, you may not receive the certificate at the end of end of the course.

The examination will be available to you after completing Unit 2, and will be administered on-line.

Following is a list of classifications of drugs that you may use for review. Please note that the exam is comprehensive and may include some of these drugs, but will not be limited to these. Also, the test is designed to allow you the opportunity to interact with some of the medication in a simulated situation. Be sure you know the generic and trade, side effects, adverse effects, dosages, and nursing implications of the following:

 

ANTIARRHYTHMIC, CARDIAC GLYCOSIDES, INOTROPIC DRUGS: Lanoxin

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE: Nifedipine, Clonidine, Captopril, Lopressor

ANTI-INFECTIVES: Levaquin, Rocephin, Vancomycin, Flagyl, Ampicillin, Augmentin, Amoxil, Unasyn

ANTIPYRETICS: Acetominophen, Aspirin

NARCOTIC ANALGESIC; Morphine, Meperidine, Vicodin, Vicodin ES, Oxycontin, Dilaudid, Lortab

INSULIN(S); TYPES, DOSING SCHEDULES, SLIDING SCALE

ORAL HYPOGLYCEMICS: Glucophage, Glyburide, Glipizide

ANTI-HISTAMINES: Diphenhydramine

NON-STEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAIDS): ketorolac (Toradol), Ibuprofen, Celebrex, Vioxx, Aleve, Actron, Orudis

ANTICOAGULANTS: Heparin, Warfarin, Enoxaparin

COAGULANT: Vitamin K

CORTICOID STEROIDS: Prednisone, Solu-Medrol, Decadron

DIURETICS: Furosemide, Aldactone, HCTZ

BRONCHODILATORS: Brethine, Theo-dur, Albuterol, Flovent

POTASSIUM SUPPLEMENTS: Micro-K, K-Dur

ANTICONVULSANTS: Phenytoin, Tegretol, Phenobarbital, Neurontin, Luminal, Depakene, Zarontin, Tridione, Klonopin

PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS: Prozac, Ritalin

MUSCLE RELAXANT: Skelexin, Robaxin, Flexeril

ANTI-GOUT MEDICATION: Allopurinol

CARDIAC MEDICATIONS:

Beta Blockers: atenolol, metoprolol

ACE Inhibitors: quinapril (Accupril), lisinopril (Zestril, Prinivil), enalapril (Vasotec)

Calcium Channel Blockers: nifedipine (Procardia), amiodipine (Norvasc), diltiazem (Cardizem)

Antilipidemics: atorvastatin(Lipitor), pravastatin (Pravachol), simbastatin (Zocar)

Antiplatelet Agents: Plavix, Ticlid, ASA

Anti-arrhythmics: Amiodarone, Lidocarine Pronestyl, Betapace

NEUROLOGIC MEDICATIONS: Tacrine (Cognex), Donepezil (Aricept), Rivatigmine (Exelon), Galantamine (Reminyl)

ANTIDOTES: Digibine, Protamine Sulfate, Narcan, Mucomyst, Romazicon

ANTI-EMETICS: Phenergan, Zofran, Vistaril, Compazine, Thorazine, Tigan

LAXATIVES: Lactulose, Surfak, Colace, MOM, Metamucil
