Distance Learning 101:
Learning Style Self-Assessment
Your level of success in any course is determined by a multitude of factors. The following self-assessment is meant to give you an indication of your learning style and aptitude for Distance Learning courses. It is in no way a guarantee of your success or failure in any course or program. This survey may help you decide whether a Distance Learning class is right for you.
Complete each phrase below by selecting the response that best describes your learning style and characteristics. When you’ve finished the survey, there is scoring values and you can add up your points to see where you are.
1. I usually complete homework and other assignments:
a. On time
b. At the last minute
c. Past the deadline
2. I am considering taking a Distance Learning class:
a. Because the flexibility fits into my schedule
b. To add another course to a full load
c. Because I can never seem to make it to my campus class
3. In doing homework:
a. I can often do it with little or no additional help
b. I frequently require tutoring or additional help
c. I rarely finish without help
4. If I am having difficulty with an assignment:

Scoring the Assessment:
The score is calculated by assigning three points for every "a", two points for every "b", and zero points for every "c" response you had.
How did you do?
If you scored from 20-30: You are probably suited for a distance learning class. You are an independent learner who doesn’t need constant supervision, and you have the self-discipline to complete tasks on time. You are ready to look at the online course offerings.
If you scored from 10-20: You probably need to think very carefully about signing up for a distance learning class. If you do decide to take a Telecourse or Internet class, please realize that you will probably have to adjust your learning strategies to maximize your potential for success.
If you scored from 0-10: You are probably better suited for traditional classroom courses at this time.
