Transfer Information

Thank you for your interest in transferring into the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Collin County Community College District (CCCCD). We are receiving increasing requests from students seeking transfer into the program from other associate degree and baccalaureate nursing programs. To assist you in determining the requirements for our program, this information is for the student who is currently enrolled in a nursing course(s), not the student who has completed only support and required courses without having enrolled in a nursing course. Students who have not been enrolled in a nursing course(s) will be considered as a new beginning nursing student and must apply for the Fall semester by the deadline date of January 31st of each year or for the Spring semester by the deadline of July 31 for each year.

When evaluating students for transfer into the CCCCD program, consideration is given to the type of program in which the student has been enrolled. All nursing programs differ in curriculum, required textbooks, clinical affiliations, and experiences. Determining units or concepts that the student has mastered or completed is crucial in making the best decision about where the student should be placed at CCCCD.

Transfer to the CCCCD Associate Degree Nursing Program is not automatic. Nursing students are considered on a space available basis. Nursing students are NOT considered for transfer into the last semester of the program. Transfer students must meet the eighteen (18) hour residency requirement at CCCCD in order to graduate. The Director of Nursing and the Student Affairs Committee reserves the right to accept or deny transfer students into the nursing program considering the following criteria as well as space availability.

For consideration of transfer into the CCCCD Associate Degree Nursing Program individuals must meet the following criteria:

  1. Attainment of a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4-point scale;
  2. Attainment of a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above on the four prerequisite courses (biology & Math):
    a. Anatomy & Physiology I – 4 credits (BIO 2401)
    b. Anatomy & Physiology II – 4 credits (BIO 2402)
    c. Microbiology – 4 credits (BIO 2421)
    d. Statistics – 3 credits
    (The courses are evaluated for transfer equivalency by the Degree Plan Specialist at the Preston Ridge Campus, 972-337-1710. Students are required to initiate this process in the Student Development Office. The student must present an official college transcript as well as course descriptions from the college catalog to the Degree Plan Specialist. These prerequisite courses must have been taken in the past five years previous to the time of request for admission into the CCCCD Associate Degree Nursing Program. Prerequisite courses taken more than five years ago will not be evaluated);
  3. Good standing in the last nursing program attended. The last nursing course in which the student was enrolled can be no older than 12 months. If older than 12 months, the student must consider admission as a beginning student;
  4. Successfully complete the PSB-Nursing School Aptitude Exam.
  5. Completed the prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or above. Grades of “D” will not be accepted for transfer. Nursing math is not accepted as an equal transfer credit for college-level math;
  6. Completed application for the nursing program must be on file in the Director of Nursing's office
  7. Official copies of all college transcripts must be on file in the Director of Nursing's office; and,
  8. Two (2) letters of recommendation from faculty and/or director of the nursing program who has taught the student must accompany the application.

In order to consider nursing courses for transfer equivalency, course syllabi from the nursing courses as well as the college catalog course descriptions must be provided to the Director of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Additional CCCCD requirements and conditions can be found in the CCCCD College Catalog including:

  1. Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended;
  2. Credit must have been earned at a regionally-accredited institution of higher education;
  3. Foreign transcripts will not be evaluated by CCCCD; and,
  4. There is an 18-hour residency requirement to earn an associate degree from CCCCD.

The Director of Nursing will notify students of tentative admission to the program by mail. Once transfer of credit to the CCCCD Associate Degree Nursing Program is granted, the student will be required to do the following:

  1. Pass an assessment of skills in the simulated lab setting. All skills up to the point of entry into the program must be passed at a 90% mastery level on the first attempt.
  2. Pass a comprehensive exam covering the concepts presented in the previous nursing courses. The test must be passed with 70% accuracy or above.

Following acceptance into the ADN program, students are required to:

  1. Purchase liability insurance which is provided through a course fee.
  2. Purchase school-approved uniforms for clinical experiences.
  3. Obtain current CPR certification (Course C) via the American Heart Association.
  4. Have the Dental Form and Pre-Entrance Medial Form completed by your dentist and physician.
