Student
Impact: Your gift makes a difference
Students
at Collin today will one day be teaching our children, nursing
us back to health when we are sick and rescuing our families
in times of crisis. Others will support the technology we
rely upon, provide hospitality services and run the businesses
in our community. Today’s students are our future teachers,
fire fighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, dental hygienists,
nurses, doctors, attorneys, business executives, engineers
and more.
Our
students are often the first in their families to attend college,
single parents, bright students who do not have enough money
to pay tuition, fees and the rising cost of textbooks. Our
students are your neighbors, community volunteers, your current
part-time workforce and the future leaders in our community.
More
than one fourth of the county’s high school graduates
will begin the path to their dreams at Collin. Nearly 80%
of Collin’s students are working 20-40 hours a week
juggling work, family and college. Last academic year, a record
8,666 students requested student employment, but only 50 students
were able to be funded for work-study. And, the need continues
to escalate.
Nearly
$13 million in federal financial assistance was awarded last
year to students compared to only $2.4 million just four years
ago. Nearly half of the 18,500 credit students enrolled in
fall 2005 were eligible for some type of financial aid, scholarships
or student loans. Unfortunately, over 2,000 requests for assistance
were denied.
Foundation
scholarships target students in need who have no where else
to turn. Your support can impact their lives. |
