About our Program
The Collin College Respiratory Care Program was started in 1990. It is located at the Central Park Campus in McKinney. This is an advanced-level program that prepares the students to be eligible for the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist exam upon graduation. The graduates are also awarded an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Currently the program accepts 25 students every fall semester.

The Respiratory Care Program prepares individuals for an allied health specialty in clinical care and management of respiratory disorders. The 22-month program graduates a student with an AAS degree and qualifies the individual to sit for the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) board examination. 72 Credit Hours are Required to Graduate with the AAS in Respiratory Care.
Collin College students are among the best because:
• Excellent classrooms and labs
• State-of–the-art equipment, including ventilators
• High-fidelity patient simulators
• Access to world-class facilities such as Parkland Hospital of Dallas,
Children’s Medical Center, Presbyterian, HCA and Baylor.
• Strong community support
• Advisory Committee comprised of local industry leaders and department directors
• Experienced and involved faculty
Employment is available to Respiratory Care students:
A major advantage of the respiratory care program is the fact that students can earn while in the program. A long tradition of "learn-while-you-work" exists in the profession allowing students to work part-time after only completing one or two semesters. Local hospitals hire student "externs" at competitive salaries.
