Lupita Tinnen, professor of photography, showcased work in “Viewfinder: New Images from Texas Artists” hosted by FotoFest and the Houston Center for Photography from November-January. The show is taken from the Talent in Texas Exhibition Series, which focuses on photo-related works by artists working and living in Texas. She also had photography in the “Everything’s Going to be Okay: Young Latino Artists 13” at the Mexic-Arte Museu in Austin in November.

Debbie White, professor of psychology, and former Collin College student Megan Parker co-authored “Service-Learning through Philanthropy in a Psychology of Death and Dying Course,” which was published in The Journal for Civic Commitment. The article titled describes the process and results of a pilot program that allowed for student creativity and leadership in applying academic theories and concepts from the course to a student philanthropy through service-learning project.

Scott Yarbrough, professor of English, published the poem "Piggly Wiggly" in the Volume Seven 2008 Anthology of The American Journal of Poetry. Keith Volanto, professor of history, co-authored a Texas history textbook, Beyond Myths and Legends: A Narrative History of Texas.

Tony Howard, professor of English, published a pamphlet for St. Alban Press titled “St. Clement of Alexandria and Universal Salvation.” Additionally, a caption he wrote for a cartoon was also published in the January/February edition of the Biblical Archaeology Review.

John Glass, professor of sociology, published “Behavior Analytic Grounding of Sociological Social Constructionism” in Behavior Analyst Today magazine. Glass served as a volunteer for the United Way ’s Outcome Measurement review process during fall 2008. Professor Glass assessed the adequacy of more than 20 evaluation plans for the United Way of Collin County.

Levi Bryant, professor of philosophy, published the his book Difference and Givenness, Deleuze’s Transcendental Empiricism and the Ontology of Immanence. He also published the article “New Universes of Discourse: Zizek and the Discourse of the Capitalist” in the Journal of Zizek Studies.

Dr. Nell Ard, director of Nursing, co-authored an article titled “Summary of the Survey on Clinical Education in Nursing” in Nursing Education Perspectives, the official journal of the National League for Nursing. Also, Dr. Ard was appointed to the National League for Nursing’s Public Policy Committee for 2009-2012. This committee serves in an advisory role to the NLN Board of Governors.

Larry Stern, chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Barbara Lusk, professor of psychology, presented "James V. McConnell and Behavior Modification: Hyperbole and Practice," at the Annual Meeting of the American Psychological Association, History of Psychology Division in Boston. Stern also presented "The Search for Memory-Transfer at Berkeley: Controversial Science and the 'Cheshire Cat Affect'" at the 40th annual Meeting of Cheiron (The International Society for the History of Behavioral and Social Sciences), Ryerson University, in Toronto.

Jerry E. Smith, professor of art, was one of 15 text book reviewers for Thompson Higher Education's 1st edition of "Gardner's Concise History of Art." Smith's artwork was chosen from among a thousand nationwide entries for the 2008 Texas National, held by Stephen F. Austin University. His work "Weighs of the Heart" received one of seven awards from the 89 artists comprising the competition, judged this year by internationally known artist Roger Shimomura. Smith also had work shown at the Texas Visual Arts Association National Exhibition in Irving, the Axis Gallery National Exhibition in Sacremento, the Alter/Altar Invitational Theme Exhibition at Grayson College, "El Corezan" Invitational Exhibition, Bathhouse Cultural Art Centre in Dallas, and "Haute Art" Art Auction, hosted by the Plano Art Centre.
