New Student Orientation had a 15 percent increase totaling 744 new students, including 574 at the Spring Creek Campus in fall 2008.

Collin College honored their 2008 Living Legends Nov. 8. The honorees were Marilyn Brooks, Mary Nelle Cummins, Rutledge Haggard and Don Dillard. In its sixth year, the event supports the Living Legends Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for deserving Collin College students.

The college hosted the executive producer of the documentary The Sugar Babies, Dr. Claudia Chiesi, and screened the film during “The Truth isn’t Sweet” in October 2008.

Dallas Baptist University became the 10th college or university to enter a pre-admission agreement with Collin College providing an exclusive and easy means of transfer to earn a bachelor’s degree after completing one’s core credits. The agreement was signed in October 2008.

The Collin College Foundation set a college record by awarding 365 scholarships totaling about $280,000 during its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony, August 2008 at the Embassy Suites Frisco.

The third annual Live Smart! Healthy and Safety Fair hosted about 600 attendees March 6 at the Spring Creek Campus. The event featured a number of screenings, health information and lectures by health professionals.

For the fall 2008, Collin College introduced a new International Business associate of applied science degree.

Collin College began its new Green Design Initiative beginning in the fall 2008 with a new Green associate of applied science degree. The Green Design Initiative is a project within the college’s Interior and Architectural Design AAS program.
