Richard Sprouse, student, was awarded the John Morgridge Scholarship by the Cisco Learning Institute. This scholarship is awarded to one person per state and is based upon their commitment to networking technology and community service.

Pearl McGregor, respiratory care student, was one of 400 students nation wide to receive a scholarship from the Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program.

Richard Vetere, Pulitzer Prize-nominated writer and playwright, visited several theater classes in October 2008 and attended a Collin Theatre Center production of his play, “One Shot One Kill.”

More than 150 students packed Collin College’s Spring Creek Campus Conference Center recently to hear internationally renowned writer Dagoberto Gilb in October 2008.

Eighteen dental hygiene students and three faculty advisors attended the Texas Dental Hygiene Educator's Association/ Student Dental Hygiene Association annual meeting held in Houston , Feb. 5-7. One of the table clinics presented by Collin College students at the professional meeting won second place. The table clinic was titled "VAP, Risk Factors and Prevention,” researched by Emily Turner and Matt Shipley. Turner received a certificate of recognition. The students also entered a fashion show with other dental hygiene schools and the Collin College team of Elise Hall, Bridget Blaylock and Tawny Nunez placed third with a prom dress made from dental hygiene materials.

Tamyra McCartney placed first in the National Career Development Association’s (NCDA) state poster contest. Rilee Grisham and Paula Lipnick placed second and third, respectively in the NCDA’s state poetry contest. All three winners will move on to the national competition in April.
Eleven Collin College students were chosen as Community College Aerospace Scholars and have been accepted by NASA to spend three days at the Johnson Space Center

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have a Dream” Speech Competition was Feb. 26 hosted by Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Chi Eta. The winners were: Jason Wang, first place; Devra Dato-on, second place; and Liyah Tonge, third place.

Expressions vocal jazz ensemble collaborated with the jazz choirs from Brookhaven and Richland colleges in the 3rd annual Community College Vocal Jazz Choir clinic and performance.

Collin Chorale and Chamber Singers were partners with Allen Symphony Chorus and Orchestra for their Fall and Spring Concerts performing Holst's Christmas Day with David Marek and Brandi Estwick singing solos.
