What resources are available for doing my own accounting and recordkeeping?

The SBDC offers Online Training through the South-West Texas Border Region SBDC. This free online learning for small businesses and start-ups covers topics on managing your finances, pricing and profitability, and generating financial reports.

In addition, Collin County Community College Continuing Education and Workforce Development Departments offer affordable certificate and non-credit classes in Accounting and Record Keeping for Small Businesses. Contact Collins Continuing Education Department at 972-985-3750 or visit www.ccccd.edu/ce.

At some point in time, it may become too much to handle on your own and it may be time to hire an accountant to assist in some of the recordkeeping activities. It is important to choose an accountant who can give you good financial, managerial and accounting advice and serve as a positive force in your business.

Materials, services or products offered by providers to SBDC clients are available as a resource for you to locate professionals who can assist you with business concerns. Making these sources available to you does not imply or constitute a recommendation or endorsement by the SBDC, but is only intended to be a convenience for you. You must perform your “due diligence” by interviewing the individuals or companies to determine if they meet your needs. If you do retain their services, be sure to obtain your agreement in writing: who is responsible for what; what work is to be performed; what is not included; what is the cost.
