Ralph Long Professor of Communication Studies Ralph Long approaches teaching from the philosophical perspective that all students are talented and gifted. To him, the fun and challenge of the classroom lies in helping them discover and develop their unique talents and gifts. He views each semester as a new adventure in self-discovery, not only for his students but also for himself. National, state, community, and college awards: Vice-President-elect Texas Speech Communication Association, 2008 Jenny Warren Professor of Communication Studies Having spent a few years teaching across numerous college districts as well as TWU and UNT, Jenny Warren now joins the faculty at CCCCD, Spring Creek campus. Both Jenny's classroom work and research concentrate on cultural and rhetorical studies with an emphasis in how gender is communicated throughout the US media. Jenny is originally from Missouri, but has called Texas home for the past 4 years. She says the greatest aspect about teaching Communication is "having the opportunity to pass on a desire to her students to see things through a critical lens, allowing for a more comprehensive and thorough look at the world around them." Professor Warren in a member of the Grade Appeals Board and leader of the Knowledge Management & Technical Communication Task Force. Diana Sage Professor of Communication Studies, Academic Chair Communication & Humanities, Preston Ridge Campus Professor Sage began her career at Collin County Community College as an Associate Professor while finishing her Master's degree in Communication Studies. As a professor at the Preston Ridge Campus, she attempts to help her students lead better lives through communication. Students enjoy Professor Sage's energetic teaching style and describe her classes as challenging but fun. Eric Carlson Professor of Communication Studies Professor Carlson teaches a wide-variety of communication courses, including speech and mass communication. He came to Collin after working 15 years in the publishing industry as Senior Editor and Account Manager. He holds a Master's Degree in Communication from Miami University where his research interests involved using media for nonprofit fundraising through persuasive and invitational rhetorical strategies. Kim Parker Professor of Communication Studies Kim comes to Texas after twenty years at Palm Beach Community College in southeastern Florida. She received her MA in Speech communication from Florida State University "longer ago than I care to comment upon"; more recently, she received a sabbatical that allowed her to make considerable strides toward a second MA in English, with a focus on British literature. At PBCC, Kim was twice named Professor of the year (most recently in 2003) and held the Sun-Sentinel Endowed Chair from 2002-2003. She was the Recording Secretary and, later, Senator for United Faculty of Florida-PBCC and a state delegate to the NEA convention in 2004. Professor Parker was one of the coaches of PBCC's Brain Bowl team, an academic competition similar to Jeopardy, for eight years and was thrilled when the team came in third in the nation in 2004. Off-campus, Kim sat on and chaired the Education Advisory Board for the city of Boca Raton and was active with the local Democratic party, "mostly writing speeches for various candidates, some of whom even won!" Professor Parker is a member of Collin's Book-in-Common committee and part of the college's Zero Tolerance of Violence Task Force. Sherry Rhodes Professor of Communication Studies Sherry Rhodes has been a member of the CCCCD faculty since 1998, first as associate faculty and then as full-time faculty in 2000. She taught academically for over 10 years for several Community College Districts and has been a corporate consultant, political consultant and in practice as a clinical hypnotherapist. She has a passion for teaching and currently teaches at the Spring Creek Campus. She believes that all students have the potential to be great, maximize their potential, and to live rich, full lives. Professor Rhodes has been nominated six times for Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and is a founding member of the CCCCD Women's Alliance, an organization dedicated to providing scholarships for returning students, creating awareness about women's issues, and developing/supporting educational programs for women. National, state, community, and college awards: CCCC Engaged Faculty Scholarship 2002, 2006 Angela Putman Professor of Communication Studies Angela Putman joined the full time faculty in 2005 and comes to Collin County from a college in south Texas. Originally from just outside Detroit, Michigan, Angela now claims Texas as home. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Organizational Communication from Western Michigan University. Professor Putman is the Faculty Sponsor for Phi Theta Kappa at CCCC. She has a passion for the field of communication and for teaching and is "thrilled to join the ranks of the excellent faculty and the fabulous Speech Department here at Collin County Community College." Ceilidh Charleson-Jennings Academic Chair, Department of Communication Studies, Spring Creek Campus Professor of Communication Studies Ceilidh Charleson-Jennings has taught at area colleges and universities since 1985, teaching for CCCC since 1989, full-time since 1994. She is also a professional pilot, flight instructor and dog handler with a K9 search-and-rescue team. Professor Charleson-Jennings teaches traditional and online Speech and Mass Communication courses for the college and supervises broadcast interns. This year she is back to school herself to conclude EMT, Paramedic, and Crisis Communication / Crisis Management certifications.
