Grants
Grants
are gift-aid awards. Federal and state awards are made to eligible
students who document need, which is the difference
between the student's
cost of education (see Cost of Education table) and the Expected
Family Contribution (EFC).
Federal Pell
Grant (Federal Pell)
Awards range from $400 to $4,000 for the 2002/03
academic year based on student eligibility. Students who have a bachelor's
degree are not eligible for Federal Pell. Awards are reduced for enrollment
less
than twelve credit hours.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Awards range from $200 to $2,000 per award year based
on Federal Pell eligibility and exceptional financial need. Exceptional
need occurs whenever
the EFC
is equal to or is less than one-half of the student's CCCCD cost of
education. Students who have a bachelor's degree are not eligible for
the FSEOG.
Awards are reduced for enrollment less than twelve credit hours.
Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)
Awards range from $200
to $2,200 per award year based on student eligibility and residency.
Federal Work-Study and Texas Work-Study
These programs are work obligation awards and require
eligible students to document need (the difference between the student's
cost of education
and the Expected Family Contribution).
Leveraging
Education Assistance Program (LEAP)
Texas Grant
Program (TGP)
Employment
Federal College Work-Study program awards range from $1,990 to $3,980
per academic year based on student eligibility. For placement
opportunities, the student must submit a copy of the Financial Aid Award
Letter to
the
Career Services Office. The work-study student is allowed to
work a maximum of twenty hours per week at the rate of $6.67 per hour.
Students
employed
in the America Reads/America Counts program earn $7.76.
Program availability is contingent upon funding.
Federal Family Education Loan Programs
These are low-interest federal loans offered to students
and parents. Need-based
loans require eligible students to document need (the difference
between the student's cost of education and the EFC). Non-need
based loans
are available to otherwise eligible students or the parents of
eligible students. A letter of good standing may be required from previous
lenders. Federal student loan interest rates are set annually
by
the Federal
Government. Students must be enrolled at least 6 credit hours
to be eligible for
this
program.
Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans
Need-based loans
available upon request to eligible undergraduates.
Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans
Non-need-based
loans available upon request to eligible undergraduates who do
not qualify, in whole or in part, for the Federal Subsidized Loan.
The interest begins
accruing on the day of disbursement at a variable interest rate
for the first-time borrower. The student is responsible for interest
accuring
while you are in school attending a minimum of 6 credit hours.
Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
Available upon request to the parents for the educational expenses
of their undergraduate dependent student. This loan does not
require an evaluation of income to determine eligibility. The parent
may borrow up
to the annual cost of the student's school defined educational
expenses less any student aid or resources awarded the student. The interest
begins
accruing on the date of disbursement at a variable interest rate
for the first-time borrower. |
