- Hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or a degree evaluated to be equivalent to a U.S. Bachelors degree
- Demonstrate Basic Skills Mastery verified by the Basic Skills Test or the THEA (Texas Higher Education Assessment)
- Demonstrate a strong content emphasis ( minimum of 24 college credits) in the desired content area for certification

Overall GPA (Grade Point Average) of 2.5 or 2.5 GPA in courses
related to content area of certification
- Obtain a passing score on the pre-admission test to verify content area knowledge
- Successfully complete the TCP assessment (through an interview and references) for effective, constant teacher characteristics and predictors for teacher success.

- Demonstrate emphasis in the four major academic areas (6 credit hours each in English, Mathematics, Science and
Social Studies*, and 3 credit hours in Health/ Fine Arts/Physical Education) that correspond to the elementary grade curricula in Texas schools.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Spanish (required for Bilingual certification only) through college credits (minimum 24 credits) or be a native Spanish speaker.
- Successfully complete the TCP assessment (through an interview and references) for effective, constant teacher characteristics and predictors for teacher success.
