Plain and Fancy Ball embraces Texan roots
for scholarships
February
10, 2006 - The Plain and Fancy Ball - Texas Style is going country
to raise money for scholarships.
The second annual Collin County Community College District Foundation,
Inc. fundraiser is roping in money for college scholarships by
combining boot-scootin' dance moves, Texas Hold 'em tables, food
and much more 7 p.m., Saturday, March 4, 2006, at the Spring Creek
Campus Conference Center, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway in Plano.
"Scholarships are imperative for today's students in higher education,"
Collin President Cary Israel said. "A $1,000 scholarship pays
for tuition and books for one student for one semester. These
scholarships pave the way for the nurses, teachers, respiratory
therapists, business leaders, firefighters and police officers
of tomorrow."
About 80 percent of Collin students are working 20-40 hours a
week, which does not include familial and academic responsibilities.
More than $12.5 million in scholarships and federal financial
assistance was awarded to Collin students. In addition, more than
2,000 requests for scholarships and financial aid were denied.
