COMMITTEE
OF 100 MEETS, DISCUSSES FUTURE DIRECTION OF COLLIN COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
OCT.
31, 2001 - Area business people and community volunteers recently met at the Spring
Creek Campus of Collin County Community College District (CCCCD). Under discussion
was the future direction of the college. This group of community leaders, the
Committee of 100, actually numbers about 130 members.
Among
the recommendations presented to college officials, were the following:
The
Committee of 100 is not a new concept for CCCCD. The original Committee of 100
led in the creation of the college in 1985. With a concern for meeting the educational
demands of a fast-growing community, burgeoning enrollments and on-going changes
in technology, college officials felt it was time to form a new Committee of 100.
"Our
college is experiencing record enrollments," said Cary A. Israel, CCCCD president.
"The latest figures for the fall semester show an 11.5 percent increase in credit
course enrollment over last fall. We are a primary training source for area employers,
and a majority of our students transfer successfully to universities. In addition,
the college educates nurses, secondary education teachers, firefighters, emergency
medical technicians and law enforcement officers. We welcome input and guidance
from the community, to help us continue in this important role."
The
Committee of 100 plans to meet again in February 2002 to discuss the development
of the next strategic plan for the college district.
